Can it be? Really? Well humdinger, it's a Friday Comic! How did I used to do this every week? Now I'm averaging 1 every six months. And this one wouldn't have come about if it weren't for some gentle coaxing from a few friends that, to my utter surprise, expressed missing these artistic atrocities. Well, for those few folks, here you go: an early Christmas present. And since there have only been 2 comics this year, you've no doubt forgot about all those old ones. Why not check out the archive to track down your favorite or let randomness decide. And while I'm sure it's a little late and a lot flat, I can't post a comic around x-mas without at least half-heartedly trying to sell you on one of my amazingly funny compilation books. Get them here: Volume 1, Volume 2. (And for an extra Christmas bonus, Della did a comic too! Good times!) |

It's been over seven months since I last released a Friday Comic. Oddly enough, very few readers have lamented the loss. Well, I shan't be discouraged. A comic idea struck me that I just couldn't pass up (mostly because I like trying to draw butts) so here it is.
It's been an interesting experience diving back in to the comic creation scene. I had forgotten how long they take and how poorly drawn they often turn out. Alas. Knowing that I don't have deadlines, quotas*, and possible book inclusion (copies still available of Friday Comics 2 here) does help the whole thing be a bit more fun. Does this post remind you how much you like reading comics? If so, spend a little time browsing the archives*. Does it remind you how much these comics feel like space filler? Don't worry. It most likely won't become a regular thing. |

The moment you've all been waiting for is finally here! Friday Comics 2, a compilation of the best of my* Friday Comics in the last 2 years (since the first book came out), is hot off the presses and ready to find its way to your bookshelf (or coffee table or toilet reading stand*). We're talking 48 full color, painstakingly drawn*, hilarious comics in this handsome book. How can you say no?*
I went with a different form factor this time around, and am very pleased with how it turned out. It makes for slightly larger comics than the last book, so no strained eyes in reading those hilarious captions. So get them while they're hot. Like last time, I'm asking $10 a copy to offset printing and shipping costs ($8 if I hand deliver). Or if you'd like to order a copy of the first book as well, I'll do a combo pack for $15 ($12 hand delivered). Contact me for details and we'll work it out. Thank you for supporting local "art". |

What better to do on the lazy day after Thanksgiving than sit down and draw a comic! And while I know only our international readers* might find themselves at a desk today*, this might be a welcome welcome back post for that Monday morning reboot.
To be honest, it wasn't the lazy day or even the comic idea that inspired me to create this comic. It was flattering emulation. A former guest comic artist has struck out on her own to take on the world, one punchline at a time. Not to be left in the dust, I wanted to get one up too. And while my art is about 1/900th as good as Della's, hopefully you'll get a laugh out of both of them! |

Election season is heavily upon us, as if you didn't notice. And that mean my evening of Jeopardy! is punctuated by heavy spells of stupid stupid stupid commercials touting this candidate or that one, this issue or that one. Anyway, as I walked away in disgust this evening*, I muttered to myself, "Sorry Rob, I don't approve this message". Then I chuckled, and not just because I was talking to the t.v. again.
But that's as far as I will take it. I was planning a big post on why you should vote 3rd party* or some other election frenzied thing. But I will leave it at this comic and say no more. (Ha! I just looked 4 years back in the archives and saw the comic I posted just before the last presidential election. At least I'm consistent.) |

*GROAN* Go ahead, get it out. You know you want to. I figure if a pun doesn't induce a groan, it wasn't a good pun. So I hope you're groaning, maybe combined with a chuckle or two.
As I mentioned in my last post, I'm working, doing a little stone masoning/landscaping (to maintain my professional status in the eyes of the Heavy Lifters Guild for another year). We've been doing a lot of rock work (wall and patio building) so I've got rocks on the brain. And while hauling those rocks, there's plenty of time to kill thinking of extremely lame rock puns. Making this comic reminded me of how much I enjoy it (and of how many more I've gotta pump out before the 2nd collection comes out in December). So hopefully I'll get a few more comics (less groan inducing than this one, I hope) out soon. In the meantime, feel free to browse the comic archives or check out this other mason inspired comic from a few years ago. |

Nearly two years later, I've finally coaxed Della into doing another guest appearance on Friday Comics. Well, to be slightly more honest, just like last time, it took no coaxing at all. She thought it up, drew it up, offered it up, just like that. All I did was add a little color, and voila!, the perfect comic to start off Autumn.
(One of my favorite comic artists, Dan Piraro of Bizarro has the habit of explaining the gag in his comic on his blog, no matter how obvious. I've grown to like the practice so I thought I might do the same. Apples, you see, have a good deal of pectin*. And chest muscles are called "pecs". Bada bing bada boom.) Yay for guest contributors!! Yay for Friday Comics! |

Well, while I don't foresee weekly comic posts coming back any time soon, hopefully, as the epic Summer '12 winds down, I'll find more time to post which might or might not include more comics. Until then, maybe go have a look at the comic archives! You never know which of your favorites you've forgotten about. Or you could even buy a book(!), just in time for those ridiculously early office holiday parties. (If you're having a hard time getting the comic, see if this helps: Martin is the one on the right. And I tried to do a time shifting/Memento thing in giving the punch line first followed by the set up. Maybe it didn't work as well as I hoped.*) |

But more importantly, this week's Friday Comic has a real treat in store. Like's been done a time or two in the past, this week I've invited a guest artist to provide a different style on the same idea. We take one of my comic ideas and both do our own thing with it. Then I post 'em both here to BdW and you, the reader, get to benefit. Two for the price of one. I don't even need to tell you who did which comic. I did one and the amazingly talented Stef (who blogs over at StefCo) did the ridiculously awesome other. Did I mention it's incredibly freaking awesome? Good good fun. I'm thinking we might need to convince Stef to do another here in the near future. Anyway, a big thanks to Stef for the awesome comic and a big thanks to all you readers* for, well, reading. Happy Friday! |
