FC 126 - The Blame Game

I was listening to the news on NPR this week, as I am wont to do every now and again, and I heard a report of the Senate debating some bill or another. In my mind, I stripped away the fancy terminology they used and the fact that they were speaking on a national forum, and this comic emerged. And no, the Senate bill was not about cereal.

It really astounds me that which we call politics. It is almost as if it is just a fancy term for the blame game. Yes, yes, I know lots of good comes from politics, but it is sometimes hard to remember that when all you hear on the news is a Democrat blaming the Republicans and vice versa. Jeez, I should have totally colored these boys shirts blue and red, to further the point. When it comes time to put this comic in a book, I'll be sure and do that.

Speaking of a book of comics....*

FC 125 - Ice Cream

I feel like I am back in college. I waited until 10:00pm the night before the assignment was due, with no idea of the topic, and I still managed to get it finished, even in time to get to bed at a reasonable hour*. Who says procrastination is a bad thing?

For some reason, I decided to make it hard for myself and make this last minute comic a 4-panel comic, which is kind of like drawing 4 comics in one. Hopefully all that last minute work will put a smile on your face this Friday. Perhaps not "A" work, but hopefully I can at least pull off a "C+". I swear I won't put it off until the last minute next time...

FC 124 - Bust Out the Champagne

This comic didn't turn out exactly how I wanted. I couldn't get the blurb just right. I am, however, proud of my laboring Egyptians. I was almost tempted to do the people in the style of old Egyptian art, because not only would it be funny, but it would be easier to draw. If I lived in the time of Egyptian artists, I would be their Picasso!*

The guy not pulling the giant block is partially inspired by my time as a stone mason. We had a piece of wonderfully shaped driftwood that fit perfectly over your shoulders with buckets tied to either side. We used it to carry materials into sites where a wheel barrow couldn't go. We called it the Yoke of Depression*. Believe it or not, I sometimes find myself missing the Yoke of Depression.

FC 123 - Really Really Unbiased

There are supposed to be people sitting around the table, to whom he is giving his presentation. But drawing people from the back or funny angles is pretty hard. So you'll just have to use your imagination.

I put this comic together while on a plane, using only the touch pad, all the while with my elbows restricted because the guy next to me deemed the arm rest his territory. All in all, though I'd say it turned out pretty good. Not too shabby for a non-artist comic artist.

FC 122 - Oh the Convenience

CAUTION! This week's comic is pretty tasteless. Or sacrilegious. Or in poor humor. Or all of the above. If you are the type of person who doesn't like hearing jokes that fit into any or all of the categories, you shouldn't read this week's comic.

The word about me and my comics is kind of getting around. I love it. I talked to a friend the other day and, out of the blue, she informed me she came up with an idea for a Friday Comic for me and went ahead and drew it. When I saw it, I definitely chuckled, albeit cautiously because I didn't know if I could post it on my blog. As the warning above says, it is a little on the tasteless side. But today is Thanksgiving and I didn't get around to doing a comic myself. Since I definitely want to get back into an every Friday posting schedule for comics, I decided to go for it.

So with as much in the way of disclaimers as I can muster, here it is. I hope you get a chuckle out of it like I did.

FC 121 - Yum Yum Yum

So I know this is a little late in the day to be posting a Friday Comic*, but I really wanted to pick back up this week but couldn't get this comic done yesterday. Please forgive me.

So, as always, I'm sure glad to get Friday Comics back up and going after the latest travel induced hiatus. Not only does it provide at least one semi-decent post per week, but it also is a very necessary outlet for my creativity and groan-inducing humor (take today's comic as an example).

Anyway, hopefully by next week I will be back on my Thursday night/Friday morning posting schedule (although I hope no one will be at their desk on that Friday morning).

FC 120 - Vandalism at Its Finest

Canada doesn't have intellectual property rights, right?* If so, I might be in trouble with this week's comic. I'm afraid that I stole it...I think. You tell me.

Here's the story: while out on a bike ride yesterday through Toronto*, I came across this bit of graffiti. I immediately assumed it was a pun and appropriately groaned. Then I started thinking about it; that concrete wall isn't a gateway. Perhaps the artist wasn't intending to make a pun but instead just social commentary. It was only when this doubt found its way into my head that I decided it was okay to comicize it.

If Maiden Canada decides to prosecute me for this crime of intellectual property rights, I figure I'll be long gone. After another day or two in Toronto and a couple days in Montreal, I'll be back where the people are decent* and we only sue about issues involving coffee being too hot or not hot enough.

Anyhoo, Happy Friday!*

FC 119 - Lets Talk Plurals

Stop right there! Don't click on that panel yet! I must first add this disclaimer*: this comic isn't to present judgement. Sure stereotypes are played off of here, but it isn't meant to be mean. I say this esp. because I don't want Ma to drop the hammer for my portrayal of librarians, which some might find negative. Just as a murder of crows doesn't indicate that crows actually murder, I don't mean to imply anything at all about librarians.

But speaking of Ma, guess where the idea for this comic came from. Go ahead, guess. That's right. The shush of librarians was all her. She had another clever one about acedmics or something, but I forgot it, so I had to come up with the others. All in all, pretty dang witty, I'd say.

But boy was this comic hard to draw. It was like drawing 4 comics in one. Luckily I cut and paste one part, so that saved some time. But hopefully it is worth it. If it makes you laugh a little, it was. Happy Friday!

FC 118 - Playing Games

This is my second bird related comic that greatly depends on accurately portraying the type of bird*. I've had this one on the list for a while, but just recently have felt ambitious enough to try to tackle it. It is my sincere hope that you can tell the difference between the ducks and the goose. Only then do you even have a chance of thinking it is funny.

Oh, and a word about the "punch line". I couldn't come up with one that I really liked, but instead settled on 2. I stuck a little snippet of javascript in to hopefully randomly decide which one you get. Chances are, however, the code will probably just break everything (RSS, etc.)

If you've got a better punch line, by all means, let me hear it. Or if you prefer one over the other, let me know so I'll know which to include in my book*. You all are my editors. Let's make this comic better together!

FC 117 - Knot What Ewe Think

YEAH!!! Friday Comics are back!!! Okay, so maybe it is just me that is super excited. But these last two weeks without comics has been like an eternity. Or at least has felt like 15 days. My excuse is a simple one: I was working. But I'm over that now. I'm back to having time to pour in my baby, the blog.

But work was good. It made my back a bit stronger, my wallet a bit thicker, and my conscience a bit clearer about my chosen lifestyle. And I got to help out a friend, learn a skill that I soon plan to apply, and do a daily commute by public transportation. Good to do. Good to be done.

But enough about work. You didn't come here to hear about work. You came to read a comic. Oh, and I was going to say a quick something about the comic: the idea, more or less, comes from Luke, fellow hax0r, juggler, and general good guy. (And for those of you keeping score at home, yes that is the same baby-backpack wearing Luke from last post. Chopping babies in half, endangering babies' lives: yep, Father of the Year.)

Anyhoo, I'm excited Friday Comics are back. Maybe this time around I will have the foresight to do up a couple extras for those weeks when I'm tight on time. But probably not.
